Shanel Stevens
Shanel Stevens, AMFT, therapist
Shanel Stevens, AMFT joins Roots & Branches with a straightforward belief at the center of her work: that real change starts with feeling genuinely safe. Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based — she's less interested in being the expert in the room and more focused on helping clients reconnect with their own values, build self-awareness, and develop tools that actually translate to their real lives. She brings warmth and honesty into the therapeutic space in equal measure, creating room for clients to show up as they are and grow from there.
Shanel works with couples and individuals navigating:
life transitions and identity exploration
perinatal mental health (including fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond)
relationship challenges and communication (couples and individual)
stress management, anxiety, and depression
spiritual challenges and faith crisis
LGBTQ+
teens
She holds a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor's degree in Communications, and is licensed as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in Utah. She is actively growing her clinical skillset and deepening her expertise across the relational and life transition concerns her clients bring to the room. As part of that approach, she has training in several different therapeutic modalities in order to best meet the needs of clients, including:
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Outside the therapy room, Shanel describes herself as the "oldest daughter" type — reliably showing up for the people she loves. She's happiest outdoors, especially near the ocean, and travel is her favorite way to recharge. At home, life stays full and grounded with her husband and their two dogs.
For anyone considering therapy, Shanel wants you to know you don't have to have it all figured out before you start. Therapy isn't about having the right answers — it's about having a space to feel heard, gain insight, and build real tools for your actual life. You just have to show up, and she'll meet you there.
