MADELIN PEPPER
Madelin Pepper, MSW-I, clinical practicum student
Madelin Pepper is a warm and compassionate therapist at Roots & Branches. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Social Work at Utah Valley University, building on her foundation in therapeutic practice. With her professional training and innate empathy, Madelin creates a supportive environment where healing and growth can flourish.
Madelin's therapeutic approach resonates particularly well with people navigating life transitions, couples seeking to strengthen their relationships, and young adults facing new challenges. Her practice welcomes clients dealing with anxiety, faith deconstruction, life transitions, and postpartum challenges. While she works with diverse clients, Madelin has developed a special connection with perinatal clients: "I have a deep love for providing perinatal clients with the support they need as they transition into parenthood."
Madelin specializes in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Her true passion lies in maternal mental health, helping parents navigate the profound identity shifts that come with parenthood. "As parents, everything changes, especially our values and goals," Madelin explains. "I allow for my clients to rediscover who they are and how they would like to live life, in accordance with their new values and goals." She has also recently discovered a passion for couples therapy, providing partners with the tools needed to improve their relationships.
Before joining Roots & Branches, Madelin worked as a victim advocate, providing crisis intervention, support, and guidance to individuals navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system. This pivotal experience became her calling to social work, igniting a deep passion for helping others heal from trauma and difficult life experiences. Her background equips her with unique insights into creating safety for clients facing challenging circumstances.
Beyond her professional life, Madelin cherishes quality time with her husband, friends, family, and two beloved cats. Her creative side emerges through various forms of art, and she finds rejuvenation in the outdoors. "I really enjoy moving my body in any way, this has been a great way for me to relief stress. I love being in nature and look for any reason to be outside," she shares. Though a California girl at heart, she has called Utah home since 2015. Her hobbies include "crafting, reading, pickleball, baking, and finding any excuse to try out a new coffee shop."
Madelin's approach to therapy is deeply informed by her understanding of the vulnerability required to seek help. "I never pressure clients to go deeper than they feel comfortable going. I like to provide clients with 'floaties' before we dive into the deep end," she explains. Her playful nature, inherited from her family of "jokesters," brings a refreshing element to her practice: "Being silly, curious and playful are skills that I help clients explore, because it speaks to their inner child, just like it does for me."
Madelin recognizes that healing isn't a race and encourages patience: "I like to remind these clients that healing cannot happen overnight and that it is okay to be gentle and slow with themselves. There is no deadline for healing, so it's okay to take a leisure route." Above all, she wants potential clients to know that while taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting, the journey is always worth it. One of her core beliefs, learned from personal experience: "You cannot face every battle alone. It is so important to have a support system. You can be independent and ask for help <3"
